PhD scholarship at Hasselt University, Belgium

Hasselt University (UHasselt) announces a PhD scholarship in computer science, in collaboration with University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. The candidate will perform research in the area of human-computer interaction (HCI), a focus domain of the Expertise centre for Digital Media (EDM, www.edm.uhasselt.be) of UHasselt.

The overall aim of the PhD research is to investigate how multimodal interaction and interaction in virtual environments can be enhanced by intelligent algorithms. The scientific ground for this research will be built on literature in both domains that contribute, namely human-computer interaction (e.g. adaptive user interfaces) and artificial intelligence (e.g. learning systems). Several applications are envisioned for intelligent algorithms in the area of multimodal and virtual environments, such as personalized interaction techniques and offering interaction techniques and metaphors that depend on the actual context of use. Practical applications are evaluated both from the perspective of efficiency and usability. Details of the PhD research are determined based on the background and interest of the PhD candidate.

The candidate must have a Academic license (4 years), master (5 years) or equivalent diploma in computer science or knowledge engineering. Students who will complete their studies during the summer, are strongly invited to apply.
