Post-Doc Position: Vision-Haptic Interaction for Surgical Simulation

Funding is available for a capable, highly motivated post-doctoral fellow who is interested in a research career in Cognitive Science, Engineering, Computer Science) to study vision-haptic interaction in humans with varying degrees of surgical skills.

The research is part of a collaborative esearch project neuroArm funded by the Canadian Foundation of Innovation, Western Economic diversification and Alberta Science Research and Innovation Program.

The research environment includes the Faculty of Medicine and Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary to endeavor new methodologies for MR-compatible, robot-assisted surgery.
The position will be situated in the laboratories of Drs. Yaoping Hu and Garnette Sutherland and will involve experimental studies with humans and computer simulation using advanced virtual reality (VR) technology.

The post-doctoral fellow will have opportunities to do research in close collaboration with clinical investigators and engineers. The position offers a unique multidisciplinary opportunity to be part of cutting edge research on VR surgical simulation.

The position is initially full-time fixed term for 24 months, extendable subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period (the applicant will need to apply and obtain a postdoctoral award from AHFMR, CIHR or NSERC).
Bridge funding will be provided.
Engineering training with knowledge of vision, psychophysical techniques, C , and haptics would be an asset. The position can start anytime between April and September 2007.
