University of Montpellier I - Motor Efficiency & Deficiency Laboratoire

Motor Efficiency & Deficiency (MED) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory from the Faculty of Sport and Movement Sciences devoted to fundamental and applied research in the field of human motor behaviour, multisensory perception, multisensory control of action and exercise physiology. The team comprises a bout 30 researchers and PhD students with strong expertise in analyzing muscular and cardio-respiratory adaptations to effort and fatigue, and modelling muscle activity, kinematic patterns and variability using nonlinear methods. The current research focuses on central and peripheral fatigue, co-ordination and multimodal control of human posture and orientation, learning rhythmic skills and the emergence of expertise.Methodologies involve data-based, experimental laboratory research using extensive, state of the art motion capture apparatus (Vicon system, force plates, electromagnetic 6 DF devices), noninvasive physiological measurement systems (surface EMG, Near Infra Red Spectroscopy), as well as modelling human perception and performance.
