PERCRO is the Coordinator of the ENACTIVE Network of Excellence.
Research activity carried out at PERCRO deals with the control component and the sense of human presence in Virtual Environments (VE) and in teleoperation conditions. Interaction with Virtual Environments is studied under different perspectives, starting with the design and development of Haptic Interfaces, their control and associated behavioral components. Concerning haptic interfaces research, the study of robotics systems interaction and cooperation with humans has been addressed under the topics of reactive robots. Another field of research in PERCRO dealing with the physical interaction between humans and machines is that of simulators. Other field of interest deal with the issues related to the visualization components of VE systems: in particular, techniques for the visualization of complex VE and for mixed or augmented reality are under study.
Recently, a new research line in the field of Computer Graphics has been set up in order to take into consideration the specific issues related to the real-time visualization of complex scenarios and Virtual Environments and real-time collision detection algorithms.
The main fields of applications in which PERCRO is now exploiting its research results are: medicine and rehabilitation, art and cultural heritage, simulators for automotive industry and entertainment.
