Centre National de Recherche Scientique - Laboratoire de Psychologie Expérimentale

The Laboratoire de Psychologie Expérimentale is a research unity, part of the CNRS (UMR 8581) and of the University René Descartes. The Team is composed by 16 CNRS researcher, 12 professors and 23 PhD Student.

The Laboratoire de Psychologie Expérimentale is subdivided into 5 teams working on various aspects of cognition: Visual perception, Auditory perception, Psycholinguistic, Ocular exploration and perception, Psychology and neuropsychology of human memory. The principal last works concerns: the criterions of decision during perceptual tasks, the origin of perceptive consciousness, the temporal analysis in audition, The role of phonology, orthography and attention for word perception in normal subjects and subjects with brain injuries, the specific deficits of language, the role of action upon perception, the unconscious memory in Alzheimer patients and working memory concerning images.

The Team "Visual Perception" is implied on the Network Enactive Network of Excellence.

This Team works on various aspects of visual perception, and more specifically:

  • Early visual processing
  • Structuration of the sensorimotor space and the role of the action/perception relation on some high level factors of decision, attention and memory
  • The philosophical and theoretical studies concerning the origins of sensations
  • Sensory substitution and perceptive adaptation
  • Occulomotricity, space perception and lecture.

Preliminary contacts with users and users' groups have been established by partners involved in the Joint Research Activity. At present users for the following fields of applications have been contacted: users with disabilities (hearing, cognitive, motion, and visual impairments); E-learning; Medicine and Surgery; Industrial designers; Art and Cultural Heritage.
